A Stone for Henry Bennett: September 2016/May 2017

On the 29th September 2016 the Commonwealth War Graves Commission installed a commemorative headstone for Henry Bennett in the churchyard of Holy Innocents, Southwater and on the 7th May 2017, in a service led by the Bishop of Horsham, and attended by current and former members of the Royal Sussex Regiment, local uniformed groups, local civic dignitaries and members of the Bennett family, the stone was dedicated. The Last Post and Reveille were sounded by a lone bugler and a soldier spoke these words, paraphrasing those etched on the wall of the Kahima War Cemetery, India. “When you go home, tell them of us and say “For your tomorrows these gave their today”
